Production Pipeline - Week 03

I'm still working on the storyboard (to be finished tonight or tomorrow) but the animatic is somewhat on the back burner due to actual filming having started this Sunday! [see below for an example]. The storyboard is quite rough so I plan on fixing it up with some color and better illustration soon (and then screen captures of my models asap). The shot sheet will also be completed tonight or tomorrow with each asset and camera movement. All beginning of models is underway and some are built but lack their special effects. Scratch track is in the wings but is lacking the special effect sounds for now as I keep developing the storyboard/animatic. Lots of work yet to do for Wednesday...already feeling behind schedule. Regardless, the project is underway and at this point it's polishing, editing, and combining.

  1. Hi there! I figure you do have a smaller "economy-size" green screen. A couple tips on lighting to help you out with potential problems that I can see.

While keylight does a pretty good job, even in these conditions, you might have problems with the shadows that your actors are casting onto the green screen. You can solve this by lighting your greens screen, but not too much otherwise you'd get that green color bouncing onto your actors and that'll be problematic too.

Technically, your cast should keep a distance from the screen itself. This avoids thick shadows like you see on your actor standing on the left hand side. Make sure you leave enough room for light to flow onto that part, otherwise it becomes a pain to remove the problem.

  2. Unfortunately, the only green screen we have is the small one you see here. I wanted them away from the screen at first but the only way to have both actors on 'stage' at the same time was to have them uncomfortably close on the curtain. As for the lights, I was working with Nick on trying to remove the shadows but even with the four lights we had and one or two of which were shining directly on the screen, the shadows never left. Not even when I used the overhead florescent lights. :/ I guess I'll just have to try to work through the issues at this point or try to shoot again in the future.
