Production Pipeline - Mimic Progress 3

Hit a snag. :/ [Deep dark secret time!!!] I'm not an expert texture artist. :0 I know; huge shock. Anyway, trying to make the wood have a depth (displacement map) but still have that toon shader look. If anyone knows how to help fix this I'd be very grateful. (PS I'm aware of the one side on the top not being fixed but I rather wait to fix it until the whole texture is ready)

  1. Hey Tex! I'm not sure if you are trying to use all procedural shaders, but wood tends to be a lot easier with a picture. I would UV map at least the parts of the character that are going to be wood and then if you search "wood texture" on google images or on http://filterforge.com/filters/ you should get some good results :) The most important thing is that your UVs go in the direction you want the wood grain.

  3. Hahahaha! :3 I love those fish. They're such a great tool to have people stay on your page.
    I hoped to make them all procedurally so I can maintain that cartoon look...but I did also try to use an actual wood texture. When I do all the other textures just feel 'odd'. I also tried to have all the panels mapped but when I mapped the top pieces they weren't laying right. I think I'm going to try another way to map them but if James is around I'll try to get his help. He's much better with textures than I am. ^ ^;
